The holiday season is about family, gratitude, and food. While we all have things to be grateful for this season, celebrations can be challenging for cancer patients, especially those managing the side effects of chemotherapy.
Tips For Making The Most Out Of Holiday Events
Here are some tips for making the most out of holiday events with your family and friends:
1. Medicate in advance
For cancer patients who have little to no appetite, smoking medical cannabis raises the levels of two key hunger-regulating hormones, ghrelin and leptin, helping to jumpstart your appetite and help food seem more palatable. In addition, cannabis can be used to improve your mood enough to be present in the lives of your loved ones. If your family is not comfortable with your cannabis use, try smoking or vaping a small amount before you leave your home.
2. Choose your strain
Find out about which strains are best used for appetite stimulation and/or strains to lift your spirits.
3. Ride with a friend
If you are traveling for the holidays this year and are not comfortable driving under the influence of cannabis, ask a friend or loved one to be your designated driver.
4. Bring some cannabis with you
If you are able to, bring your cannabis with you to your meal incase its effects wear off before you sit down to eat. Vape pens are especially useful for this because they can be used discreetly. You can also bring your favorite edibles to keep on hand during your meal. Check out our recipe for a delicious pumpkin pie with cannabis infused oil.
5. Indulge in a pre-dinner snack
Have yourself a little medicated dessert before dinner. Eating your medication on an empty stomach speeds up the onset and produces a more reliable effect.
6. Enjoy!
Cannabis can help you relax and enjoy your moments with your loved ones. Use the opportunity to tell them how much you appreciate them.
